How to use it

What to do with the output

Upload the file so it resolves at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. Keep it accurate and update it when the important pages change, because a stale file pointing at dead URLs is a small negative signal.

Treat it as a cheap signal rather than a mechanism you can depend on. Adoption is partial and evolving. The cost is one file.

How we work

No email gate, on purpose

A tool behind a form is a lead magnet pretending to be a tool. These run entirely in your browser and nothing you type leaves your machine.

They are the first steps of our own process, published so you can run them yourself and decide whether you need anyone at all.

Detail

What this file is and is not

01
It is a proposal, not a standard

The llms.txt convention was proposed by Jeremy Howard of Answer.AI in September 2024. It is not an IETF or W3C standard and no provider is obliged to fetch it. Publishing adoption is real; consumption is uneven.

02
It does not control access

robots.txt governs what may be fetched. A sitemap enumerates URLs for indexing. llms.txt is a curated reading list. They do different jobs and you want all three.

03
Why publish it anyway

The cost is one file and the exercise is genuinely useful: deciding which ten pages actually represent the business is a question most teams have never answered.

FAQs

llms.txt generator: common questions

Is llms.txt an official standard?

It is a community proposal with growing but uneven adoption. Nothing about it is guaranteed.

Does it replace robots.txt or a sitemap?

No. It sits alongside them and serves a different purpose: what is worth reading rather than what may be fetched.

What should go in it?

A short description of the business and links to your best data, pricing, documentation, case studies and contact route.
